Bill Balog & B Squared Motorsports: “4TH at Dick Witt Checkered Classic”

10/6/11 (BG Motorsports PR) – The final night of the 2011 IRA season took place this past weekend at the Dodge County Fairgrounds in Beaver Dam, WI. 31 Bumper to Bumper IRA sprint cars were on hand for the “Dick Witt Checkered Classic”, Bill started the night by circling the “Horsepower Half-mile” with a lap time of 16.688 seconds which ended up being the 5th fastest time of the night.

By virtue of the qualifying effort, Bill took the green flag from the 5th position in the 2nd of 3, 8 lap heat races. A top 5 finish was needed in order to transfer straight to the main event, once the field was under green, Bill quickly moved up to the 4th position. He went on to battle for 3rd until a dirt clump destroyed the nose wing, which resulted in the side board cutting the front brake line. Bill was able to maintain control of the car throughout the remaining laps & brought home a 5th place finish.

For the final feature event of the season, Bill piloted the Gleason Racing Equipment / Buesser Concrete / Maxim from the 4th position. A red flag on lap 1 required a complete restart, which was a benefit to Bill. He quickly moved up in to 3rd & held on to that position until another red a few laps later. The crew was able to make a few adjustments to the car on this red & on the ensuing restart, Bill had the car rolling along nicely until more wing trouble derailed that effort. This time the wing ram broke free of the wing tree, which let the top wing move back & forth at free will. Bill had his hands full over the last half of the race, as he had to manhandle a car that just didn’t want to turn as a result of the top wing being all the way back. He was able to hold on to 4th over that course & was able to bring the car home in one piece. By virtue of the 4th place finish, Bill & the B Squared Motorsports team were able to secure their 4th Consecutive Bumper to Bumper IRA Championship.

Bill Balog & B Squared Motorsports: “Top 10 at Filskov Memorial”

9/22/11 (BG Motorsports PR) – It was back to the Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, WI for the 15th running of the Frank Filskov Memorial. After suffering from a DNF the last time Bill & the IRA competed here 2 weeks prior, the team had hopes of turning things around at the tight 1/3 mile oval.

The night started off right with Bill laying down a lap time of 11.787 seconds which ended up being 2nd quick out of the 28 cars present. By virtue of the qualifying effort, Bill piloted the B Squared Motorsports entry from position #6 of the 2nd heat race. The 10 lap event would go green to checker without any interruptions & Bill easily worked his way up 2nd by the time the checkered flew.

The #5 pill was drawn for feature inversion, which meant Bill & the K&N Engineering 17B would line up inside row #5 for the 27 lap feature event. When the green flag flew, Bill hammered on loud pedal & began his quest for winners check. The track was still very narrow & didn’t provide much room for error. Bill managed to dodge a few bullets early on & continued to work his forward. With the car being just a tad to tight, Bill had to run the cushion with finesse & when the checkered finally flew, he had worked his way up to the 7th position.

There are just 2 events remaining on the 2011 IRA schedule & Bill currently holds a 145 point lead over 2nd place in the run for his 4th consecutive IRA Championship.

This Saturday, September 24th, Bill & the B Squared Motorsports team will be in action at the Wilmot Raceway in Wilmot, WI. Also on the card that night are the MSA 360 Sprints & Wilmot Mini-Sprints making it an all open wheel show.

Bill Balog & B Squared Motorsports: “Weekend Sweep”

9/15/11 (BG Motorsports PR) – The final 2 day weekend of the 2011 IRA season, seen Bill Balog take on 2 different Northern Wisconsin speed plants. First up was the Amsoil Speedway in Superior, WI for the Annual Northern Nationals. Bill began the night by setting his 3rd Quick Time in a row by turning a lap of 13.182 seconds, which averaged out to 102.412 mph around the high banked oval. By virtue of the qualifying effort, Bill would start 6th in heat race #1. Once the heats finally went trackside, Bill got to work & began the march towards the front. By the midway point (lap 5) he had worked his way up to the 3rd spot. He wasn’t done there as he was up to 2nd shortly after that & that’s where he would finish the 10 lap event. The #3 pill was once again drawn for feature inversion which meant the Maxim Chassis / A&E Collision 17B would line up 6th in the 30 lap Northern Nationals main event. As the field was beginning to take shape on the track, the car who was suppose to start 4th ended up spinning prior to the green flag & would have to go to the tail, which meant the 17B would move up a row & start 4th.  When the racing action commenced Bill took of like a rocket & by the 4th lap was up to 2nd when the races 2nd caution waved. Once the field was back to racing, Bill was right on the leaders back bumper, it took a few laps to navigate his way around but on lap 8 he took the point & quickly opened up a sizeable lead. Bill had to endure 2 more caution / red flag periods during the race, but proved to be to strong for the competition as he would go on to claim his 11th IRA win of the year & 2nd Northern Nationals in a row.

The 2nd night of the double header weekend took place at the Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, WI for the $5000 to Win Jerry Richert Memorial. 36 strong teams were on hand for this event, the night didn’t start off well as the 69 pill was drew for qualifying which meant Bill would be the last & final car out to turn a lap. When Bill finally hit the track for his turn in qualifying, he was able to muster up a lap time of 11.627 seconds which ended up being the 5th fastest time of the night. He would pilot the Saldana Racing Products 17B from position #5 of the 1st 10 lap heat race. When the green flag waved, Bill got an excellent start & moved up to the 4th position right away. It took the next few laps to make his way past the 3rd place car & quickly began closing in on the 2nd place car. Once he was able to reel in 2nd place, he spent a few laps waiting to make his way around him; once Bill did he set his eyes on the race leader who had opened up a straight away lead. With 2 laps to go, Bill had closed the gap between himself & the leader. On the white flag lap, Bill made a bold move in turn 1, as he threaded the needle between a lapped car & the race leader. He was able to over take the leader & go on to claim yet another heat race win. The #3 pill was once again drawn for the feature inversion, which would place the B Squared Motorsports 17B outside front row for the $5000 to Win 30 lap feature. At the drop of the green, Bill jumped out to the lead & began to open up a sizeable lead on the field.  An early caution would bunch the field back up, but Bill proved to be the class of the field & soon re-opened up a sizeable lead. Bill would have to endure a few more cautions, but every time he would go unchallenged & retain the lead. As the race wore on the track began to take rubber in turns 3 & 4 which meant tires & passing would be come an issue. As Bill was trying to make his way around a lapped car late in the race, he had to move off the rubber which allowed 2nd place, Mark Dobmeier to make his way past Bill & lead lap 28. Bill fought back & reclaimed the lead going in to turn 1; from that point on he would go unchallenged & go to claim the prestigious Jerry Richert Memorial Trophy & the $5000 reward that went along with it.

This week Bill & the B Squared Motorsports team will be in action with the IRA at the Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, WI for the Frank Filskov Memorial. Bill was the winner of this event 1 year ago & also visited victory lane at this track in June of this year.

Bill Balog & B Squared Motorsports: “Rain, Rain Go Away”

9/9/11 (BG Motorsports PR) – Three nights of IRA sprint car action were on the schedule for Labor Day weekend, first up was the 10th Annual Thiel Memorial at the Dodge County Fairgrounds in Beaver Dam. Just as the teams were set to begin motor warm ups & finish packing the track in, Mother Nature had another idea & the skies opened up. With rains earlier in the day, the track couldn’t take any more water & the event was canceled.

Next up on the weekend was a visit to the Plymouth Dirt Track & the Sheboygan County Fair in Plymouth. With rain all around the area, the event was put in to hurry mode in hopes of getting everything complete. The night started with Bill piloting the HRP Wings 17B to his 3rd quick time of the year with a lap time of 11.918 seconds. In the 10 lap heat he took the green from position #6. When the green flew Bill wasted little time on getting to work & moved in to the top 5 right away. He didn’t settle there as he continued to pick cars off through out the 10 laps & when the checkered flew he made his way to the 3rd spot which transferred him right to the 30 lap feature. The #3 pill was pulled once again for feature inversion, which lined up the BLZ / Astro Titanium 17B outside row #3. After a brief rain shower & a little time to rework the track, the cars were called to the track & everyone was ready to go racing. As the field raced their way through turns 1& 2 on lap 1, Bill had picked off a car or two until he was driven in to going down the back straight away, by the same car that took him out at Beaver Dam Raceway on night #1. As a result of the contact, the front axle & nose wing was completely damaged resulting in a trip to the work area. The crew along with the help of others tried their all to get things fixed but the damage was too extensive & the night was over before completing 1 lap in the feature. Bill was officially scored in the 22nd position.

The 3rd & final night of the weekend was set to take place at the 141 Speedway in Francis Creek, WI. Bill & the team had won the previous 2 race this year at the facility, so they were looking forward to the event. Just as team started rolling in to the pits, the skies once again opened up for a couple brief showers. After delaying the start of the show, the rain moved out & the sun began to poke through. Cars were called to the track to help with packing. Just as the track was beginning to take shape another heavy shower hit the 1/3 mile oval, this one proved to be too much & for the 2nd time on the weekend, the event was canceled.

This coming weekend marks the final multi race weekend for the 2011 season, Friday, Bill & the rest of the IRA will be in action at the Amsoil Speedway in Superior, WI for the annual Northern Nationals. Saturday it’s on to the Cedar lake Speedway in New Richmond, WI for the $5,000 to Win Jerry Richert Memorial.
